Kitsap Edges Gresham

Three total home runs were on display at Oslund Field as Kitsap edged Gresham 9-8 on Wednesday.

Taylor Adams started the home run party with a three run blast in the top of the second to give Kitsap (6-14) a 3-0 lead. Daniel Lopez drove a two RBI double in the same inning to drive in Jack Stronach and Alec Chaney. Kitsap led 5-0 after two.

Jake Prizina (3-3) started for the BlueJackets. He breezed through the first two innings. In the third, Konnor Zickefoose reached on an error and scored when Mark Cardinalli drove a single to pull Gresham (11-6) within 5-1.

The GreyWolves tied the game in the fourth when Jeffrey Mitchell Jr. started off the inning with a single. Will Matthiessen clubbed a home run to close the gap 5-3. Jordan Barchus singled and Matt Karo walked.

Barchus scored on an error while Karo scored on a Zickefoose RBI single to tie the game 5-5.

The Kitsap offense wasted no time in taking the lead back in the top of the fifth.

Jack Stronach, Luke Stampfl and Joey Galeno singled to get the inning started. Justin Bundy smacked a single to left to score Stronach and Stampfl as the BlueJackets regained the lead 7-5. Galeno scored on a passed ball to give Kitsap an 8-5 advantage.

The Kitsap lead did not last long, as Cardinalli belted a three run home run off reliever Garrett Smith to tie the game 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth.

Carter Buuck (1-3) shut down the Kitsap offense for the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Buuck allowed singles to Stronach and Lopez in the top of the ninth. He was replaced by Michael Clark. Galeno hit a bouncer to first base that Matthiessen could not handle, and Lopez scored from second to give Kitsap a 9-8 lead.

John Matros (1-1) closed the door in the eighth and ninth innings against Gresham to seal the victory.

Buuck picked up the loss for the GreyWolves.

Prizina started on the hill for Kitsap, lasting five innings and allowing four earned runs.

Bundy finished the day 3-4 with two runs batted in for the BlueJackets, who finished with 15 hits.
